Eyes on the Prize

Henry Hampton with Blackside colleagues Kenn Rabin and Cindy Kuhn. Kuhn looks to be taking copious notes while Hampton and Rabin discuss a topic. Eyes on the Prize and an interview play on two TVs in the background.

Eyes on the Prize is a 14-part series that was originally released in two parts: Eyes I in 1987 and Eyes II in 1990. This series debuted on PBS stations and is considered to be the definitive documentary on the Civil Rights Movement.

The series won more than twenty major awards and attracted over 20 million viewers. These interviews are part of the Henry Hampton Collection housed at Washington University Libraries Film & Media Archive.

This digital collection of the series contains the complete interviews conducted by Blackside for Eyes on the Prize I, including sections that appeared in the final program and the outtakes.
