The King’s Anatomist
Join us for the January book club to discuss The King’s Anatomist by Ron Blumenfeld.
One of the most renowned figures in the history of medicine is Andreas Vesalius, the Flemish anatomist whose work helped launch a revolution on how the human body was seen and described. But for someone who won fame and fortune in his life, his death seems strange: on the way back from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, he died on the Greek island of Zante. In this work of historical fiction, former physician Ron Blumenfeld follows mathematician Jan van den Bossche on a journey to Zante to visit his friend Vesalius’s grave—only to realize he might not have known Vesalius as well as he thought.
Book club will begin with a showcase of 16th century anatomical texts—including those of Vesalius—followed by a discussion of the novel.
