LGBTQ+ History

The Department of Special Collections holds a number of collections focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) history in St. Louis and the Midwest.

In previous decades, most archives, including Washington University, omitted much of this history. In 2015, however, Washington University Libraries joined the St. Louis LGBT History Project Collecting Initiative and now actively works to ensure this history is preserved and available for study.
