Data Services Staff Participate in Big Data Panel
In October 2020, the Data Services team participated in a presentation and discussion panel entitled The Power and Responsibility of Data hosted by the Washington University Alumni Association.
The event focused on big data as it relates to the 2020 Common Reading Program book Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O’Neill. Jennifer Moore discussed what it means to be data literate and how the Data Services team supports data literacy on campus. Dorris Scott, Bill Winston, and Mollie Webb presented their thoughts on storytelling with information graphics, maps, and algorithms. The panel was moderated by Rudolph Clay, Head of Diversity Programs and Policy and African & African- American Studies and Urban Studies Librarian at the University Libraries.
A recording of the panel discussion is available on the Washington University Alumni Association YouTube channel. The Data Services team is ready to give this talk and facilitate a discussion in your department, program, or research/working group. Just reach out!
