Bio

Joan joined the WashU Libraries in 2018. She was previously a cataloging librarian and a visiting assistant professor at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Joan holds a master’s degree in information management from Peking University, China, a doctoral degree in information studies from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and a Certificate of Advanced Study degree in library and information science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Selected projects, activities, and accomplishments

  • Collaborated with Steven B. Miles and his PhD students from the History Department on the visualization of social connections and geographic movement of Xie Lansheng—a project presented at the Historical Sources and Research Methods on Social Connections in Ming and Qing Dynasty, Fudan University, China, June 2019
  • Worked with a graduate student volunteer from the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures on a digital exhibit about Eileen Chang, one of the most influential modern female Chinese writers of the 20th century
