Back-to-School Tools from the Washington University Libraries

Every school year begins with a list of must-have supplies—laptops, notebooks, binders—but this year, we suggest you put apps on your list! The University Libraries recommend the following tools for heading back to school:

  • Zotero is described as “your personal research assistant,” and it is! This free, easy-to-use tool helps you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. It’s available on Mac, Windows, and Linux using Safari, Chrome, or Firefox browsers. Download it yourself and use our tips, or attend an upcoming Research Workshop to learn more about it.
  • BrowZine is a terrific app for browsing, reading, and organizing journal articles. Think of it as a current awareness service that connects you to the latest academic articles in your field. Download it on a tablet, smartphone, or on the web, and link it to the University Libraries’ subscriptions.
  • LibKey Nomad is an efficient browser plugin that automatically provides instant links to full-text articles from the University Libraries’ journal databases and subscriptions. LibKey Nomad will figure out the fastest path to full-text content when you’re browsing online. It works on Chrome and Firefox.

Enjoy these apps—and happy researching!
