The Black Panther
University Libraries’ Julian Edison Department of Special Collections hosted an exciting exhibit dedicated to Marvel Comics’ Black Panther. The exhibition was curated by Skye Lacerte, curator of the Douglas B. Dowd Modern Graphic History Library (DMGHL), and Vernon Mitchell, Jr., University Libraries’ curator of American popular art and culture. The exhibition chronicled the development of the comic book character over the last five decades, giving unique visual context and perspective to the 2018 film.
The Black Panther comics displayed were only a small part of University Libraries’ very robust comic book collection, spanning over ninety years. The Washington University’s Center for the Humanities donated the collection to the DMGHL in 2012. For more information, contact Skye Lacerte.
