St. Louis’s Indie Publishing Scene
These days, some of the most daring and original publishing happens in the margins of the mainstream, with independent presses and printmakers willing to take risks on new voices and experimental forms. St. Louis is home to a vital community of indie presses and artists who operate locally but whose groundbreaking publications reach readers across the country and world.
Join us for a panel discussion with five local publishers of poetry, fiction, art, and essay to talk about the work they do, the unconventional ways they do it, and the advantages and disadvantages of operating away from the commercial centers of the publishing industry.
Martin Riker, Director of the Publishing Concentration at WashU and co-founder of Dorothy, a publishing project, will lead a conversation with Devin Johnston (Flood Editions), Kevin McCoy (WORK/PLAY), Crystal Odelle (Newfound), and Christopher Schaberg (Object Lessons), with time for questions from the audience. Come early for food and drinks.
Free and open to all, registration requested.
Co-sponsored by WashU Libraries and the Center for Literary Arts.
