International Writers Series: Esther Kinsky

Join the International Writers Series for an evening of fiction in translation with the 2024 Max Kade Visiting Writer Esther Kinsky, one of Germany’s most celebrated living authors. She will read and discuss her most recently translated novel Rombo (New York Review Books, 2023). Sylvia Sukop, PhD Candidate in Germanic Languages & Literatures, will join her in conversation.

Esther Kinsky is the author of six volumes of poetry and four novels, most recently Rombo. Kinsky has translated many notable English and Polish writers into German, including John Clare, Henry David Thoreau, and Olga Tokarczuk. Her novel River was longlisted for the German Book Prize in 2014, and Grove won the 2018 Leipzig Book Fair Prize. 

Sylvia Sukop completed her MFA at Washington University in St. Louis in 2018 and is currently a PhD student in the German program and International Writers Track, and a Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Fellow.

The International Writers Series is a collaboration between the International Writers track of the Program in Comparative Literature and the Washington University Libraries to celebrate new publications of creative works by writers and translators in the Washington University in St. Louis community and beyond. The discussions are moderated by Matthias Goeritz, Professor of Practice of Comparative Literature.
