The symposium brings together researchers, faculty, and graduate students in the United States and abroad to explore different facets of modern illustration through workshops, panels, and tours of the Dowd Illustration Research Archive in Washington University Libraries. The keynote address will be delivered by Charles Johnson, professor emeritus at the University of Washington, Seattle, illustrator and author of Middle Passage, for which he won the National Book Award. This event is jointly hosted by Washington University Libraries, the Dowd Illustration Research Archive, the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, and the MFA in Illustration and Visual Culture program (IVC).
