Remembering Mary Wickes

64-158b-3-wickes-brookingsWe are remembering one of our alums,  Mary Wickes, who died on October 22, 1995 / 21 years ago this weekend.

Mary Wickes was an alum of Washington University, graduating in  1930.  She went on to have a successful career as a character actress on stage, in movies, and on TV.  You may remember her in White Christmas, The Man Who Came to Dinner, The Father Dowling Mysteries, or Sister Act.  She was a great friend to  WU as she came back to campus several times to work with classes and left an endowment to the WU Libraries.

University Archives has her papers which includes both personal and professional material covering much of Mary Wickes’ life from her family life to school days through her long and active acting career.

Please check out Chicago Now and Steven Krage’s blog posts all week as he has devloted the entire week to the life and times of Mary Wickes.
