A collection of Record Books from the St. Louis Circuit Court from 1809 through 1862 are now available on the Libraries’ Samvera (previously known as Hydra) platform. While the books have been digitized and available publicly as part of the St. Louis Circuit Court Records project for many years, Scholarly Publishing has recently migrated this collection to the Samvera platform as part of an initiative to replace the outdated DLXS Digital Asset Management System.
Record Books are a permanent bound handwritten record of daily proceedings of circuit court civil and criminal cases. The chronological record includes term of court, date, officials in attendance, number and style of case, detailed statement in formal language of any proceedings, motions, judgments, actions taken, adjournment. Some volumes have corresponding indexes at the back or in a separate volume.
The collection is accessible here and contains digitized page images and some transcribed text. An improved feature of Samvera is the ability to pan and zoom into the page images for detailed reading of the original text.
