New Japanese Book Club Launches Virtually

Over the summer, the East Asian Library successfully launched the first Japanese Book Club. Interested PhD students and Mitsu Nakamura, the Japanese/Korean Studies Librarian, met on Zoom for discussion.

The group will keep meeting online each month throughout the semester to read one selected title, 『ピュア』(pyua), by 小野美由紀 (ONO MIYUKI), which was published in the spring. The title consists of five shorts of the sci-fi genre, with a focus on gender issues in Japan. In December, the author will join the book club for a virtual discussion of her works.

Anyone who is interested in reading the book is welcome to join the club at any time. Please feel free to contact Mitsu Nakamura for more information. The club will read another chosen title during the spring semester, and copies will be available through the East Asian Library.

Let’s read in Japanese and discuss in English together for fun!
