“Presidential Debates, Part of Washington University’s Legacy” is an exhibit by University Archives on display in Olin Library’s Grand Staircase Lobby through October 30, 2016.
Washington University will host the second Presidential Debate on October 9, 2016, in a town hall meeting style. Hosting these debates has become part of the Washington University’s legacy.
The university has hosted 3 Presidential Debates (1992, 2000, 2004) and 1 Vice Presidential Debate (2008). In 1996 the university was selected to host a Presidential Debate, but it was cancelled after the candidates reduced the number of debates from three to two. In 2012, the university was a back-up site.
