2008 Vice Presidential Debate at Washington University

Washington University will host the second Presidential Debate on October 9, 2016, in a town hall meeting style. Hosting these debates has become part of the Washington University’s legacy.

The university has hosted 3 Presidential Debates (1992, 2000, 2004) and 1 Vice Presidential Debate (2008). In 1996 the university was selected to host a Presidential Debate, but it was cancelled after the candidates reduced the number of debates from three to two. In 2012, the university was a back-up site.

University Archives has additional material from the debates, please contact Special Collections email or      314-935-9730 with questions or to schedule an appointment to interact with the material.
