New Exhibit Highlights Antiquities in University Collections

“Investigating Antiquities in University Collections,” Papyria new exhibit featuring some of the earliest materials in Special Collections, is now on display in the Special Collections Reading Room. The exhibit includes examples of papyrus from as early as the 2nd century BCE, including a rare love letter and ancient drawings. Texts from the Rare Book Collection and Becker Medical Library highlight early and current scholarship on antiquity, with illustrations of musical instruments, translations of texts, and notes in Greek made by Thomas Jefferson.

Curated by Phillip Caprara, a PhD candidate in the Department of Classics, the exhibit will be on display through August 10, 2018, and can be viewed in the Special Collections Reading Room Monday- Friday: 9:00  – 5:00 pm.
