Archives of Human Sexuality and Identity: LGBTQ History and Culture Since 1940 seeks to document and represent the experiences of the diverse individuals and organizations that constitute the LGBTQ community as well as the LGBT community as a whole.
Contributing archives include the New York Public Library, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Historical Society, and the National Institutes of Health, among others. Their content comprises this database of 19 themed sub-collections (listed under post).
Many of the sub-collections’ titles indicate some of the material types included, but photographs, correspondence, surveys, and publicity documents are also in among the periodicals, agency reports, and newsletters.
Searches across the collection or within a specific sub-collection are both possible. Checkbox limiters on the left-hand side of the screen also allow searchers to browse by a specific document type.
In addition, the database offers a Term Frequency visualization tool.
