Open Collection Management and Access Services Positions

Working with full-time staff, student workers will be responsible for completing daily tasks that include and are not limited to the following;
• Retrieve books and/or journals from Olin Library and departmental libraries on Danforth Campus.
• Scan/Deliver electronic articles to patrons.
• Departmental mail including daily courier deliveries
• Research and process requests for items:
- Borrowed from other lending libraries
- Loaned from our collection
- Needed by WashU students and faculty for research
- Being made available on Course Reserves
• Process MOBIUS requests for items:
- Borrowing from other MOBIUS libraries
- Loaned from our collection
- Needed by WashU students and faculty for research
• Data entry to maintain recordkeeping
• Other projects as assigned

The number of hours given per week can be increased/decreased based on your availability and the needs of the Interlibrary Loan Department.

This position requires a public service orientation and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population. Students must have a pleasant demeanor, an understanding of (or an ability to learn) the Library of Congress catalog system, basic computer skills, and a willingness to learn library database programs. Responsibilities include checking books out to patrons, assisting the public in using the catalog, resolving printer & copy machine problems as needed, and various other tasks. Students will contribute to sorting, retrieving, re-shelving books, and regular stacks maintenance throughout Olin Library. Student assistants should expect periods of walking, lifting loads of up to fifteen pounds, and moving and shifting books regularly. Multiple shifts are available. *Please note that we do not hire exclusively for the summer. All applicants will be expected to commit to a position that extends into the fall semester as well.*

Hours per week: 6-20
Hourly rate: $8.60
