We are excited to announce that Nine Network (KETC) will be doing a 14-hour marathon rebroadcast of the entire Eyes on the Prize series on Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 7th. The rebroadcast will come with many special events, including a live kickoff broadcast in the Public Media Commons in Grand Center (3653 Olive Street) with special guest Judi Hampton, the sister of Henry Hampton, beginning at 7pm on Friday, May 6th. The live broadcast will be followed by an airing (and live simulcast at the Public Media Commons) of the newly-produced documentary, Eyes on the Prize: Then and Now at 7:30pm. This documentary features previously unaired materials from the Libraries’ Henry Hampton Collection. The first episode of Eyes will then air starting at 8pm, with episodes continuing until midnight, and then pickup up for all day broadcast on Saturday, May 7th beginning at 10am until 8pm.
In addition to the re-airing, there will be several related events at the Public Media Commons, including a spoken word performance at 9pm Friday night, an Eyes on the Prize watch party with Judi Hampton from 12pm-3pm on Saturday, May 7th, a performance by local choirs from 3pm-5pm on Saturday. Additionally, watch parties are being planned for venues around town.
For this event, Nine Network will be airing, and making available online, additional content from the Libraries’ Henry Hampton collection, including a segment on Living St. Louis. For more information about all of these events, feel free to contact me, or visit the Nine Network page. We also will be posting updates on our Film & Media Archive Facebook page.
Please join us in celebrating the rebroadcast of this ground-breaking series on the civil rights movement in America.
