On May 6-7 Eyes on the Prize was rebroadcast on Nine PBS and in the Public Media Commons at Grand Center. With special guest Judi Hampton, sister of Eyes on the Prize executive producer Henry Hampton and president of Blackside, Inc., the production company he founded.
The evening started with a screening of Eyes on the Prize: Then and Now a half-hour special that re-examines the groundbreaking documentary series, and included a spoken word performance by Eugene Redmond, Poet Laureate of East St. Louis. The next day included interviews with Judi Hampton, Nadia Ghasedi, Associate University Librarian, and performances from St. Alphonsus “Rock” Church Choir, Metropolitan Community Church Choir, African Musical Arts “Songs of Africa Ensemble,” St. Francis Xavier College Church Choir, Eliot Unitarian Chapel Choir. The afternoon was emceed by Brian Owens, St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Artist in Residence and national recording artist.
