Stories of Independence

The celebration will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Level 1 of John M. Olin Library with an informal talk by Curator of Rare Books, Cassie Brand, about the original copy of the Declaration of Independence on display in Olin Library.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m. there will be activities for children and adults, including:

  • Reading of Frederick Douglass’s speech “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” (note: abridged)
  • Storytime for younger children, with resources from We Stories
  • Make Your Own Declaration

Lemonade and cookies will be served. Free and open to all.
