Mapping LGBTQ St. Louis is a new digital history initiative that connects the public to historical information about places in our region’s LGBTQIA history. Surveying a period from 1943 to 1992, the initiative has inventoried more than 700 sites, many of which have been demolished.
Many people have contributed to this project, and we want to celebrate this community effort. Work on the maps is now in the final stages, and it will be publicly shared for the first time at the launch party.
Presented in collaboration with the St. Louis LGBT History Project, Washington University in St. Louis, and the State Historical Society of Missouri. Mapping LGBTQ St. Louis is funded as part of a Mellon Foundation grant awarded to the Divided City Initiative at Washington University in St. Louis’s Center for the Humanities.
