Making Web Maps with R

  • November 15, 2019 • 12 PM – 2 PM
  • Olin Library, Instruction Rm. 2

In this two-part workshop, students will learn how to create a basic web map using the leaflet for R package. In addition, students will be exposed to a variety of other packages that will be useful for basic data collection, manipulation, and mapping. Finally, students will learn how to embed their map into an R Markdown document and share it online.

Part 2 of the workshop (from 1-2 pm), which is optional, gives attendees an opportunity to continue working on the web maps that they created in Part 1 (from 12-1 pm). In addition, students can use this time to ask any additional questions they have on the workshop content.

Geography Awareness Week (GAW) is an international event with the goal of highlighting the significance of geography in people’s lives. The Data Services team at the University Libraries will be celebrating the importance of geospatial data and tools with a series of workshops on various topics ranging from open source geographic information systems (GIS), Storymapping, Community GIS, and using Python with spatial data.

Free and open to all.

Anyone who participates in at least two sessions will receive a gift! Follow the Washington University Libraries on Facebook and Twitter (@WUSTLibraries) for GAW updates and use the hashtags #GAWatWashU, #GeoWeek, and #geographyawarenessweek when attending the workshops.
