Faculty Book Talk: Joanna Dee Das

  • September 28, 2017 • 4:30 PM – 6 PM
  • Women's Building, Formal Lounge

As part of the Library Faculty Book Talk series, Joanna Dee Das will discuss Katherine Dunham: Dance and the African Diaspora (Oxford University Press). As an African American woman, Katherine Dunham broke barriers of race and gender, primarily as the founder of an important dance company that toured around the world for several decades. In her book, Das makes the argument that Dunham was more than a dancer—she was an intellectual and activist committed to using dance to fight for racial justice. Das is assistant professor of dance at Washington University in St. Louis.
