Washington University Libraries will host the exhibit “50 x 50 Missouri” from Friday, September 30, 2016, through Friday, October 7, 2016. The opening will be from 4 to 6 p.m on Friday, September 30. This project was student initiated and is supported by Washington University Libraries.
“50 x 50 Missouri” is part of a national initiative announced by the White House to promote interest in classical literature to a new generation of young readers. Local artists are invited to create new covers for some of the greatest works of literature in the public domain. The initiative aims to involve all 50 states in its effort. Other organizations supporting this initiative include the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Digital Public Library of America, New York Public Library and FirstBook.
“50 x 50 Missouri” will feature 20 works created by Washington University students, faculty, and local artists. The remaining 30 posters were selected from the national Recovering the Classics database, which include works by artists throughout the country.
