Database Trial – American Religion: Denominational Newspapers

Try some searches in American Religion: Denominational Newspapers during a trial access period until December 12. Please share your thoughts about this resource through this feedback form. Your opinions help inform future WU Libraries’ purchases and subscriptions.

The collection includes over 300 rare, American newspapers published 1799-1900. (Note: Not all titles include their full publication run.) This database complements coverage in America’s Historical Imprints, Early American Newspapers, 1690-1922 (WU has access to Series I and Series III), and other Readex databases.

Major and localized denominations are represented in this collection through its variety of national and regional titles. With this wide swath of views, students and researchers may explore perspectives on the major issues of the day, such as slavery, politics, westward expansion, women’s suffrage, Native American relocation, and other national and local concerns.

Search features include basic and advanced keyword searching, and options for limiting searches to time period, region, or article type.
