Dr. Peter Kastor, Chair of the Department of History, in collaboration with the Humanities Digital Workshop, has been developing a database of the early American government by interpreting, digitizing and coding historical documents. The Data Services (DS) team has worked to map the changing government using the Newberry Atlas of Historical Counties Boundaries data set. Due to the vast scope and complexity of this project, it very much still under development, but has engaged the entire team in data cleaning with R, management, analysis, scripting with Python, presentation and preservation through WUSTL’s institutional repository, Open Scholarship.
