MGHL staff have been working hard on packing the tear sheets for the CLIR grant this week. We started the process of sorting, foldering, boxing, and packing items from the Walt Reed Illustration Archive.
Skye, MGHL curator, has identified a list of illustrators that will be digitized.
The files are removed from the cabinets and the tear sheets are refoldered and labeled.
More sorting and foldering before the tear sheets are packed in boxes
Tear sheets that are packed away in an almost-full box.
Packing the smaller boxes requires climbing into the large shipping container on the pallet.
See Skye, around five feet tall, for reference to the size of the shipping container. The smaller boxes inside contain the folders of tear sheets.
Found treasures while sorting through the tear sheets include Polaroids of artwork and a (mostly) intact pin up calendar by illustrator Ernest Chiriaka.
We also found some pieces on board in Fred G. Cooper’s file.
