In honor of Open Access Week, Stephen Hawking’s thesis “Properties of expanding universes” was made freely and openly available on the Cambridge University website. Previously, the 1966 thesis was only available in print at the library or required people to pay for a scanned copy. Read more about Hawking’s decision here.
Washington University also makes its theses and dissertations available online through the university repository Open Scholarship. Since 2009, theses and dissertations have been submitted electronically and are freely available online, although some authors do select an embargo. A growing number of theses and dissertations from before 2009 are also available through the same site to the Washington University community only.
We will add your thesis or dissertation to the repository upon request! If you would like to add your thesis or dissertation to Open Scholarship, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Digital Gateway for more information.
