University Libraries’ Julian Edison Department of Special Collections is proud to announce the opening of an exciting new exhibit dedicated to Marvel Comics’ Black Panther. Now on display in Olin Library next to the grand staircase, the exhibit was curated by Skye Lacerte, curator of the Douglas B. Dowd Modern Graphic History Library (DMGHL), and Vernon Mitchell, Jr., University Libraries’ curator of American popular art and culture. The exhibit chronicles the development of the Black Panther character over the last five decades, giving unique visual context and perspective to the film that’s now in theaters.
The Black Panther comics on display are only a small part of University Libraries’ very robust comic book collection, which spans over ninety years. The collection was donated to the DMGHL in 2012 from Washington University’s Center for the Humanities. For more information, contact Skye Lacerte.
