April Fools

A long running tradition on campus are joke issues of Student Life, such as this headline from April 1, 1930.  (Read the full front page here)

Most year’s editors were clear about their joking, indicated “April Fools” in the mast head, and printed on different colored newsprint.  Other years the joke was more subtle (much to the confusion of archival researchers browsing back issues).

University Archives holds a collection of Student Life issues going back to the first published issues in January 1878. For browsing, issues are available on microfilm at University Archives and in Olin Library.  Original paper copies are also stored at University Archive, and used for digitization, exhibits, and for research as their physical condition allows.

The Irving Union — forerunner to Student Life  published from 1869 to 1877 is also available at University Archives.
