The American Geophysical Union has announced plans to launch a “preprint server” that will host studies and research results prior to peer review and full publication. The server, which is called the Earth and Space Science Open Archive (or ESSOAr) is the latest in a series of preprint servers like arXiv, bioRxiv, and ChemRxiv, which encompass a variety of disciplines.
ESSOAr will be a collaborative, open-source repository for scholarly research submissions in the Earth and Planetary Sciences. It will also serve as a permanent home for meeting posters, which usually go to waste after they are initially presented.
A demo of the software will be available by December 2017. For more information, please refer to this announcement.
ESSOAr will have company in the form of another brand-new preprint site called EarthArXiv. This resource is powered by the Center for Open Science, and was launched last month by a grassroots group of Earth and Planetary scientists.
