The Preservation and Digitization department is hiring student workers to digitize archival and rare library material. Our location is at West Campus libraries, 7435 Forsyth Blvd, next to the Forsyth metro link stop. Our office hours are 8am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday, with no weekend or evening hours. Applicants must be enrolled full time.
Working in coordination with the Digitization staff, the assistant digitizes a variety of material by means of scanning and photographic duplication. Position responsibilities include tasks related to reformatting images and text into digital formats according to technical specifications; carrying out and assisting with post-processing tasks, such as quality control; following digitization workflows, guidelines, and other documentation related to digitization and project management. Familiarity with image digitization, photography, and/or the Adobe Creative Suite is desired, but not required. Equipment and software training is provided. Applicant must be able to work independently and stay focused on repetitive tasks.
Students must be able to work at least 10 hours per week. The position's start date is at or before the start of Spring semester 2020.

Job Description: Student assists staff with day-to-day operations in Special Collections including shelving, pulling materials for patrons, reproduction requests, assistance with basic reference tasks, and staff projects.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists with special collections processing including inventorying, sorting, arrangement, description, cataloging, re-housing.
• Supports reference desk responsibilities by assisting patrons in the reading room, answering the phone, assisting patrons with material handling, and scanning patron requests.
• Assists with pulling and setting up collection materials and re-shelving materials for instruction and patron requests.
• Other duties as assigned.
Special Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel); Knowledge or familiarity with scanning software and Photoshop Detail-oriented; ability to lift up to 40lbs, ability to work independently, yet willing to take directions; Responsible for working independently in secure spaces, following security protocols. Experience handling fragile paper/photographs preferred.
