The first is for a Manager of Distance Learning and Project Development. The second is for a Multimedia Developer and Studio Coordinaor. Both positions report to the associate director.
The Media Center for Art History was established under a National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant to develop innovative products for teaching in the art history core curriculum requirement and other courses, support interdisciplinary distance learning activities, and explore new means of cultural resources training, communications, documentation, and interpretation.

Manager for Distance Learning and Project Development
- Develops and evaluates curriculum and learning modules for a wide variety of art history and cultural resources courses, distance learning programs, and other media-based education projects in collaboration with faculty, undergraduate and graduate student assistants, and staff;
- Coordinates a portfolio of pre-college and higher education projects for internal and external clients and partners that may include Columbia University faculty, faculty from a variety of other institutions in the United States and abroad, not-for-profit cultural organizations, and museums;
- Develops and conducts workshops in the deployment of media techniques, such as digital video, digital photography, databases, and World Wide Web creation, for faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and external partners;
- Provides and supports demonstrations of digital media projects and clearly explains the technical and theoretical aspects;
- Contributes written reports and other documents related to area of expertise as required for grant proposals, internal and external reports, publications, and other purposes;
- Designs and produces media products principally for the World Wide Web on the Macintosh platform;
- Participates on and arranges faculty expeditions to domestic and foreign locations and uses digital video, 35mm photography, and digital capture techniques to gather images for multimedia projects;
- organizes conferences, colloquia, symposia, seminars, and other events;
- secures copyright permissions and licenses;
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BA/BS required. Advanced degree in Education, Art History, or related field preferred. Minimum two years related work experience in multimedia development techniques for education required. Experience in education instruction, curriculum development, distance learning on the World Wide Web, and pedagogical evaluation required. Knowledge of basic photography and video techniques required. Advanced skills in the creative application of visual, database, and communications technologies to education using a variety of photographic and communications Macintosh software and equipment required. Demonstrated familiarity with using Macintosh hardware and software for World Wide Web (Cyberstudio, Dreamweaver, Shockwave, Flash, Quicktime, Java), multimedia (Director, Quicktime Virtual Reality), imaging (Photoshop), video (Media 100, Premiere, After Effects) production highly desired. Excellent communications, organization, and inter-personal skills required. Must be able to work well independently and in teams on complex, multiple, concurrent projects and be highly self-motivated.

- Participates as an imaging technician on faculty expeditions to domestic and foreign locations and uses digital video, 35mm photography, and digital capture techniques to gather images for multimedia projects;
- Sets up and maintains databases;
- Develops and conducts workshops in the deployment of media techniques, such as digital video, digital photography, databases, and World Wide Web creation, for faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and external partners;
- Provides and supports demonstrations and workshops of digital media projects and clearly explains the technical and theoretical aspects;
- Implements and supports a heterogeneous technology infrastructure for an advanced faculty research computer media studio and department offices;
- Serves World Wide Web sites on Silicon Graphics/Apache system;
- Maintains compliance with internal audit and other university and government policies;
- Installs and maintains current software and hardware;
- Archives original video and digital media;
- Performs data backups;
- Inventories and organizes equipment, supplies, and materials;
- Recommends purchases;
- Contributes written reports and other documents related to area of expertise as required for grant proposals, internal and external reports, publications, and other purposes;
- Advises about new technologies and techniques.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
