EIGHT DAYS FOR EIGHT HUNDRED MILLION

October 16-24, 1996 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Many people in Canada are worried about where their next meal is coming from. Eight hundred million people are already hungry worldwide.

Did you know that 800,000 people in Canada access food banks each month? Children are worried, too. Four out of ten of food bank users in Toronto alone are children.

The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) will be convening a World Food Summit in Rome. Some youth and many volunteer groups will attend, starting on 11 November. World Leaders and heads of state will gather on 13 November to 17 November.

Canadians can make a difference. They can recommend directions for Canadian leaders to take abroad. They can outline actions needed in Canada. And they can help establish actions which will improve food security at the school and community levels.

Join people and groups to promote awareness and solutions during Eight Days for Eight Hundred Million (the estimated number of hungry and malnourished people worldwide.) Link to the Global Network on Food Security at:

What are your suggestions to reduce or end world hunger? What steps should Canada take at home? What can you do personally at home or in your school or community group to foster world food security -- we will forward your suggestions to the Canadian delegation tot he Summit. Please include your name, postal code, fax or e-mail address or school/community group address so we can update you after the Summit!
