Dear friends,

This week I have been being interviewed for the main newspaper of Brasilia - Correio Braziliense, about "local currency", an issue I have been researching about lately... The article will be published next Sunday, and I suppose it will provoke a certain emotion and repercussion.

But we (I and the journalist) have some important doubts: Could you please give us some explanations on the questions below, from your own experience and from the information you got?

1. how the "local money" is issued? Or, how a new member gets his/her first amounts in local money to spend? Does he/she pay for it, in "federal money"? Or does he/she receive it for free? Or must s/he work first - for someone or for the community - and then receive the first amount in local currency?

2. How do the "local currency" systems substitute old "local currency" notes? I work with the Brazilian Central Bank and I am used with the process through which the old or damaged "federal" notes are exchanged by new ones.

3. Does exist any association or federation or coalition that links together the many "local currency" systems, already set up in many communities in England, USA, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia etc.?

I am sorry for making all these questions, but we have read the book "New Money for Healthy Communities" and we could not find any clear explanation about it (or at least we could not understand any clearly). Please, if you know other persons who could help me, forward this message to them. Yours, Joaquim +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Joaquim Moura - Partners of the Americas Youth and Citizenship Development Commission SHCGN 713 - Bloco I - apt. 202 - Brasilia DF - 70760-739 - Brasil
