The Search Conference is a process by which an organization or community learns how to become an active, adaptive learning org. or community, i.e. sustainable and competitive.

Its backbone is its organizational structure known as second design principle (DP2) or participative democracy which is a NON-dominant hierarchy of FUNCTIONS, as opposed to the ubiquitous DP1 structure better known as Bureaucracy with its typical highly hierarchical and dominant structure based on redundancy of parts.
