THE JANUS PROJECT: New Learning Technologies and Women

A two-day workshop to unveil recent research finds and discuss the=20

implications -

March 21, 22, 1997- Montreal, Quebec.

What are the adult learning opportunities offered to women by the new=20

technologies? What are the barriers?

HEAR KEYNOTE SPEAKER: HEATHER MENZIES, well-known Canadian researcher and=20

writer on women and technology, author of =22Whose Brave New World? The=20

Information Highway and the New Economy (1996)=22.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE THERE?

* To hear the outcomes of a CCLOW research project into new=20

technologies and adult learning opportunities for women, presented by=20

researchers Jennifer O'Rourke and Linda Schachter (Hands on=20

Management, British Columbia)

* To learn about other pertinent research in the area and to=20

identify gaps.

* To share your experience, concerns, and knowledge about the=20

impact of new learning technologies on women's lives.

* To network and develop ideas for future action.

The workshop will have a two-part structure, presentation and=20

participation. You will hear the keynote speaker, the presentation of=20

research findings and a panel discussion on the key issues. =20

There will be free time for feedback and informal exchange. You will=20

also be able to participate in one of several issue-based small group=20

discussion tracks which will end in plenary sessions.

This invitation has been sent to Canadian women's organizations*, to=20

public and private educational institutions, to government, business and=20

labour groups, and to individuals who are interested in the education and=20

empowerment of women.

We expect participants to include adult educators at all levels from=20

literacy/ABE to post-secondary, union trainers, creators of new learning=20

technologies, employment counselors, students, and policy makers from all=20

sectors - government, business, labour, foundations.

Space is limited to 100 participants (including the presenters and=20

facilitators, Heather Menzies will be a participant.) First come, first=20

served. =20

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION : FEBRUARY 28, 1997.

*Women's Organizations: a small number of travel and accommodation=20

national feminist organization dedicated to addressing education and=20
