I am a relative newcommer to this listserve, but I would be grateful for
some information and ideas.

I am interested in encouraging philanthopic foundations to help build science and technology in developing countries. An issues paper which Ming Ivory and I prepared for a computer conference on the topic last year is available on:

http://www.vita.org/technet/founissu.html

The computer conference itself is archived at:

http://www.vita.org/technet/archive.html

Can you help with:

1. information on foundations and foundation like organizations in developing countries with emphasis on science and technology, such as Fundacion Chile or the Corona Foundation;

2. information on European and Japanese foundations working in this field;

I am especially interested in ideas as to how the foundation community can play a more active role in building science and technology capacity in developing countries.
