* The full-text of an IDS/GEC report of Poverty and the environment in developing countries has been added. This is the first step in what we hope will be a model for the presentation of a research project (using the IDS Environmental Entitlements Programme).
* The outline of possible Eldis Phase 2 activities has been updated.
* Additional records for development research centres in the UK have been added to the section on UK development infrastructure. We hope to develop this infrastructure section further (and with more detail on research projects) in partnership with the new IDS programme to disseminate ODA-sponsored research results.
* Search interface to ELDIS: the new search interface seems to be working, except for some of the extended search facilities. It searches an Eldis record, returns a list of both record titles and highlights, and displays records on a one-record-per-page basis. We are currently looking at software to improve this, and to provide an interface which would allow (if selected) a simultaneous search of the BLDS/IDS Library catalogue.
* Finance: DANIDA has awarded the BLDS 300,000 UK sterling over the next three years for ELDIS development. Starting in September 1996 we will receive 100,000 UK sterling each year. DANIDA has given the money based on a project proposal worked out at the BLDS. We have employed two people to work full time on this: Peter Ferguson and Tracy Zussman.
* Training materials:. We have added a page used at IDS for Internet/Eldis training sessions: we will continue to add links to this, and any suggestions are welcome. This is in addition to our more structured work-book called Keying into development: a guide to using the Internet and other electronic resources for development studies. It was written as part of a research-skills course at CDE/IDS and is, therefore, biased towards technologies available on the University of Sussex campus has been updated. But we hope that it will also be of wider interest.
* Library additions: we have added more lists of recent additions to the British Library for Development Studies in the subject areas of development aid and participation. You can search the BLDS catalogue directly for these, but we though these might be useful in this pre-prepared format. Any comments on the usefuleness of this?
