Sometime, when the list once again starts to drag, what do you say to looking at the implications of such a statement? It seems to me there is more here than just an implicit assumption that Quantity of subscriptions is a Good Thing. A post-modern sensibiity might ask: isn't staking out a certain Purpose, and binding ourselves collectively and 'respectfully' to it, essentially an Imperialist project? Clearly, this is not the best time to raise delicate issues, but in the meantime, we could prowl around amongst the ethnographers and anthropology types to see if anyone is picking up on this kind of research.
