- Exhibition: Celebrating Research, a new exhibition highlighting the Department of Special Collections, is currently on display in the Grand Staircase lobby and Ginkgo Reading Room in Olin Library. - Libraries Host ARL Reception: The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) held its annual membership meeting May 23-25 at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis. As part of the conference, the Washington University Libraries hosted a reception on May 24 in Whispers Café, with approximately 150 library directors and guests attending. - Addition to database: The Libraries have purchased the U.S. Serial Set Digital Collection, 1789-1969, which can now be searched on its own or as part of LexisNexis Congressional. Considered one of the most important sources for the study of American history, politics and sociology, the U.S. Serial Set gives the thinking behind the events to add context and insight into research studies. The collection begins in 1789 with the American State Papers and details Congressional business through 1969. It includes reports and documents either produced or ordered by congress, as well as presidential communications and treaty materials. Of particular importance to those who study law, the Serial Set contains Congressional legislative reports that provide insight into the legislative intent of laws enacted before 1969. - Change in database: Film and Television Literature Index has been converted to Film & Television Literature Index with Full Text, which includes cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for more than 270 publications (and selected coverage of more than 300), as well as full text for more than 70 journals and nearly 50 books. - New database: Chicago Tribune, Historical (1849 - 1985). It has full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. More info. 6/14/2007
- New database: SBRnet focuses on the sporting goods and sports marketing industry. It's mission is to provide a continuously updated resource featuring market research and industry news covering all facets of the industry…sports equipment sales, sports participation, sports broadcasting, sports sponsorship and sports marketing. 6/14/2007
- ArticleReach Direct service is now available from the Get it! menu. This will provide direct ordering of articles from a group of 8 major libraries. More info. 6/4/2007
- New database: SocINDEX with Full Text provides comprehensive coverage of sociology, encompassing all sub-disciplines and closely related areas of study. Access provided to WU by the Social Work Library. More info. 6/4/2007
- New database: Global Market Information Database, from Euromonitor International, provides business intelligence on industries, countries and consumers. It offers integrated access to internationally comparable statistics, full-text market reports, insightful comment from expert industry and country analysts as well as thousands of sources of further information. 6/4/2007

- New database: The Libraries have subscribed to Who’s Who on the Web, from publisher Marquis Who's Who, for one concurrent user. It contains comprehensive profiles on over 1.3 million individuals from all fields of endeavor, including: government, business, science and technology, the arts, entertainment, and sports. - More new ebooks: We've added several more titles from Oxford University Press: Encyclopedia of the Middle Ages; Grove Encyclopedia of Decorative Arts; and Oxford Encyclopedia of Children's Literature. 5/11/2007

- Closing early: On Friday, April 27, Olin Library and Whispers Café will close at 6:00pm due to WILD. The Arc will close at 4:30pm. Olin Library and Whispers Café will reopen at 9am Saturday, April 28. 4/25/2007
- An exhibition entitled Gandhi, King, Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace will be on display in the Olin Library, Monday, April 16-Friday, April 27, 2007. This traveling exhibition includes photographs and information focusing on Mohandas K. Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Daisaku Ideka, three men from different cultures and continents, who devoted their lives to non-violence, human rights, and world peace. More info. 4/13/2007
- New ebook: The Oxford Dictionary of Byzantium, with more than 5,000 entries on 1,100 years of Byzantine history, from the 4th century to the 15th. 4/5/2007

- New database: The Libraries have subscribed to the Scholar's Edition of Women and Social Movements in the United States, 1600-2000, a full-text database. More info. 3/29/2007
- The Washington University Libraries and the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will host a panel discussion and an opening reception for an exhibition entitled arcadia id est: nature and landscape in the artist's book, on April 5, 2007, on the Danforth Campus of Washington University. The exhibition is on view in Olin Library's Ginkgo Reading Room & Grand Staircase Lobby during library hours, April 2-May 13, 2007. More info. 3/28/2007

- New database: PILOTS (Published International Literature on Traumatic Stress) attempts to include citations to all literature on PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and other mental-health sequelae of traumatic events. Updated monthly. More info. 3/13/2007
- Enter the Student Book Collecting Contest: The 20th annual Carl Neureuther Student Book Collection Competition is underway. All full time Washington University students are eligible to compete for cash prizes by submitting a short essay, a bibliography, and a few items from their private book collection by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2007. Awards will be given in two categories: graduate and undergraduate, with a first-place award of $1,000.00 and second-place award of $500.00 in each category. - Oxford Science Archives has been purchased and is now available at WU. This gives access to titles from v.1- through the volume for 1995 for each title. Click on the link above to see what titles are included. In most cases we have access to 1996+ due to active subscriptions on Danforth or Medical campuses, but in some cases we have no access beyond 1995. 2/27/2007

- The Dred Scott Case and Its Legacy: Race, Law, and the Struggle for Equality: Dred and Harriet Scott's historic petitions, filed in pursuit of their freedom from slavery, will be on display Saturday, March 3, 2007, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Special Collections Reading Room, Olin Library, Level 1, on the campus of Washington University. These documents are on loan from the Missouri State Archives, and will be in Special Collections only for the March 3rd event. A reception will be held concurrently, in the Ginkgo Reading Room, adjacent to Special Collections. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. - Political satirist Christopher Buckley will be the Assembly Series speaker on Wednesday, February 21st, at 11 a.m. in Graham Chapel. His lecture is entitled "Thank You for Smoking: A Conversation with Christopher Buckley." The recent movie Thank You for Smoking is based on Buckley’s novel of the same name. Washington University Libraries are co-sponsoring this lecture, thanks to an endowment from WU alumnus Carl Neureuther. 2/13/2007
- New database: Keesing's World News Archive, the online version of Keesing's record of world events. Note that while many years are searchable, our subscription only includes full-text of the articles from 1987 to present. More info. 2/13/2007
- New database: John Milton Bibliography, which brings together "all manuscripts and editions of John Milton's works and all studies and critical statements concerning his life and works, all allusions and quotations, and all significant imitations during the years 1624-1799." More info. 2/9/2007

- New database: Index Islamicus, which indexes literature on Islam, the Middle East and the Muslim world. More info. 1/18/2007
- Two new ebooks: The Libraries have purchased online access to these two titles: American Men and Women of Science and Encyclopaedia Judaica. - More complete E-Journal information in the Catalog: We are now loading all ejournal access information into the Catalog monthly - all the information that before was only available on the Fulltext Journals A-Z list. Journals for which online access is available have the word (Online) after the title. We hope you find having all information about print and online journals in one place useful. 1/9/2007
- New logon password as of January. 8: All profiles for library public computer logons will be deleted on January 7, including any documents that have been saved to the library server. New profiles will then be created, with a temporary password. The first time you log on to a library public computer beginning January 8 you will need to use your temporary password, and will be required to change it at that log on - and every 90 days thereafter. See logon directions (in Word), or Printing FAQ: Logging onto Library Computers for more information. 1/5/2007

- New database: Eighteenth Century Collections Online, which contains the full-text of books and other materials published between 1701 and 1800 in the United Kingdom and the Americas. More info. 1/3/2007

Catalog and proxy server outage: The online catalog will be unavailable beginning about 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 2, while the software is upgraded. When the catalog is offline, so is the proxy server, so off-campus access to licensed databases and ejournals will not be possible. It is expected to be unavailable for several hours.
WU Libraries holdings can be viewed in the MOBIUS catalog during the outage. In that catalog, you can use the new Limit/Sort Search button and choose WHERE Item is located to select Washington Univ from the pull-down menu.

- Don't lose your files! There are problems in saving your files from Word, Excel, and other applications on library computers. We are investigating them, but in the meantime, PLEASE be careful to save your files so that you can retrieve them later.

- Email the document to yourself BEFORE closing it and the application
- New full-text collections: we now have access to Cell Press backfiles via ScienceDirect. Previously we had 1995+; now we have v.1+ of Cell, Neuron, Current Biology, Structure, Chemistry & Biology, Immunity. Also we have access to Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology backfile package via ScienceDirect. In most cases, we have added access to v.1-1994. Examples of important titles we now can read entirely online include Analytical Biochemistry, Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, Current Opinion in Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Gene, Journal of Magnetic Resonance, Journal of Molecular Biology, Journal of Structural Biology, Mechanisms of Ageing and Development, Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, Mutation Research, Phytochemistry, Plasmid, and many more. 12/15/2006
- Remove your files! When you log on to library computers with your WU ID, you have some storage space on the Library server for your files. If you have saved files to the Library server, please remove these files, by saving on a USB drive, CD, or emailing them to yourself, before January 8. All files left on the server will be deleted then. 12/8/2006
- The landmark final report of the Iraq Study Group (ISG) is now available to the Federal Depository Library Program, of which the Washington University Libraries is a member. The electronic version of it is available, in PDF: The Iraq Study Group Report. 12/7/2006

- New databases: Thanks to the WUSTL Law Library, all of Washington University now has access to two new databases: Congressional Research Digital Collection, a full-text database containing Congressional Research Service reports (1916-present) and Committee Prints (from 1830-present), that is part of LexisNexis Congressional; and The Making of Modern Law, which is a full-text collection of Anglo-American legal treatises from 1800 - 1926. - New site for Alumni & Friends: The Libraries have created a new website specifically for WUSTL alumni and other friends of the University. On the Library homepage, you'll find it at the bottom of the flyout menu from About the Libraries. There's also a button on the lower left of the homepage to Support the Libraries. - The Annual Review backfile, 1932-1995, has been purchased. We now have v.1+ full-text online access to all the Annual Review titles in the Biomedical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences. We previously had full-text access to most of these titles from 1996+. We have print volumes for most of these titles, but the added online access will be very convenient to researchers. 11/5/2006
- New database: International Medieval Bibliography is an interdisciplinary bibliography of the European Middle Ages, covering Europe, the Middle East and North Africa in the period 400-1500. - The Libraries have subscribed to the IEEE Electronic Library Online. We'd had parts of this before; what we've added is online access back to volume 1, issue 1 of all IEEE and IEE journals and conference proceedings, and access to all IEEE standards. 7/21/2006
- The JSTOR Biological Sciences Collection has been aquired at WU. The titles that are probably most interesting to WU faculty and students include Copeia, Biological Bulletin, Bioscience, Herpetological Monograph, Journal of Herpetology, Journal of Mammology, Journal of Paleontology, Journal of Parasitology, Journal of Vegetation Science and Taxon. As with other JSTOR collections, this access is from volume 1 but not quite up to the current volumes; there is usually a "moving wall" of current volumes which are not available from JSTOR; usually we have access to those from some other source. Several additional titles' backvolumes will be added to this collection in the future. 7/21/2006
- New database: PsycCRITIQUES contains full-text reviews of books, films, videos and software in the field of psychology. More info. 7/18/2006
- New ejournal collection: AnthroSource brings 100 years of anthropological material online, including current issues for 15 of the American Anthropological Association's most critical peer-reviewed publications; an electronic archive of all AAA journals; holdings information; seamless access to archival content housed at JSTOR for key AAA publications. - New database: Empire Online contains 'over 70,000 images of original manuscripts and printed material, 1492-1962.' More info. 7/7/2006
- New database archive: The Libraries have purchased the archive for INSPEC, covering 1898-1968. Now when you search INSPEC you have the option of specifying that entire time frame, or fewer years, as you wish. More info. 7/7/2006
- New database: Sanborn Maps of Missouri (1867-1970). This database contains scanned fire insurance maps for cities and towns in Missouri, providing detailed property and land-use records. More info. 7/5/2006
