  • Database changes: The Libraries have subscribed to Academic Search Premier. Since this database covers much of the same material as Expanded Academic Index, Humanities Abstracts, and Social Sciences Abstracts, those databases will not be renewed.   • The Libraries have purchased JSTOR Arts & Sciences III collection, which, when complete by the end of 2005, will include journals in language and literature, music, the history and study of art and architecture, cultural studies, film, folklore, performing arts, and religion.   • New database: Film Index International provides in-depth indexing of over 118,000 films - from the first silent movies to the latest blockbusters - and biographical information for almost 685,000 personalities.   • New databases: The Libraries have purchased 6 databases from Alexander Street Press. Each can be searched individually; the full-text contents of each can be searched in North American Theatre Online. The individual databases are: American Film Scripts Online, Asian American Drama, Black Drama, North American Women's Drama, and Twentieth Century North American Drama.   • See the exhibition entitled ". . . and henceforth shall be free" in the Olin Library main lobby, the Ginkgo Reading Room, and the Special Collections reading room, from now through April 27.   • New database: GLBT Life, an index of the world's literature regarding Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender issues. As of 3/14/05, now includes more full-text. More info. 3/14/2005
  • Database upgraded: the Libraries have upgraded our Oxford Reference Online subscription from the Core collection to the Premium collection, which adds more than 50,000 additional in-depth, scholarly articles from titles in the acclaimed Oxford Companions series, plus all 20,000 quotations from the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations.   • Problems with RLG databases seem to mostly have been solved. They affected Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals; Anthropology Plus; Bibliography of the History of Art; and History of Science, Technolgy, and Medicine. If you have problems with these databases, please contact your subject librarian. 3/4/2005
  • The 18th annual Carl Neureuther Student Book Collection Competition is underway. All full time Washington University students are eligible to compete for cash prizes by submitting a short essay, a bibliography, and a few items from their private book collection by March 28, 2005. Awards will be given in two categories: graduate and undergraduate with a first-place award of $1,000.00 and second-place award of $500.00 in each category.     • Olin Library will remain open until 8 p.m. However, all areas except Circulation and the Arc will be closing at 3 p.m.
