Libraries Announce 21st Annual
Student Book Collecting Competition

Cash Awards for Graduate and Undergraduate Students

Deadline: March 24, 2008

Washington University students who have a passion for collecting books may compete for generous cash prizes by entering the 21st Annual Neureuther Student Book Collection Competition.

Sponsored by the Washington University Libraries, the Neureuther Competition is designed to encourage students to read for pleasure, collect books, and develop personal libraries. Book collections entered in this competition should reflect the personal and intellectual interests of their owner.

The Neureuther Competition has both graduate and undergraduate categories, with a first prize cash award of $1,000 and a second prize award of $500 in each category. To enter, you must be a current full-time student at Washington University.

Entrants should supply (1) a completed entry form; (2) five copies of a 2-4-page essay about the collection (one copy with your name on it, four without); (3) five copies of a comprehensive bibliography of the books in the collection (one copy with your name on it, four without); and (4) three to five representative books from the collection.

Entry materials must be delivered to the Department of Special Collections, Olin Library, Level 1, by March 24, 2008. Special Collections is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Materials must be received by 5 p.m. on March 24, 2008, to be considered. Judges will consider the collection's scope, thematic unity, personal value to the collector, and other factors. Winners will be announced in late April.

The Neureuther Competition is made possible by the financial contributions of Carl Neureuther, a 1940 graduate of the University.
