What's New: Logging in to Library Services
Social Security Numbers have been removed from the Libraries’ principle systems that support individual logons, namely My Catalog, the proxy server for off-campus access, ILLiad, and Find it!
This effort was undertaken in response to several years of mounting concern about identity theft and other abuses of personal information. While the library systems have never been compromised as a source of information leading to such abuse, it has always been a possibility.
You will now have to use your University ID to log in to these services. Your University ID is your employee or student number (usually 6 digits or fewer). Your PIN or password on each system has not been changed. Faculty and staff can find this number on your pay stubs. Students generally know this number already, because you need to use it to access WebSTAC.
Special note about Find it! If you have citations saved on your eShelf, saved search strategies, quicksets, or other preferences in your Find it! account, that you were accessing with your SSN, this information is NOT lost. The account is still there; you just can't get to it. Please do not log in with your WU ID number and save more citations, etc. If you have logged in with your WU ID, we can delete that new account, to let you use your old one. Contact the Library Webmaster, email below, to have your old account set to your WU ID number.
If you need assistance, contact the nearest library service desk, call 314-935-5410, or email library.webmaster@wumail.wustl.edu (answered Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) for assistance.
