In St. Louis, water and asphalt share an unusual connection via gambling.  Ironically casino boats—despite their dependency on collective and cultural memories of an economically vital riverfront and riverboat gambling of early traders on the Mississippi—currently contribute more towards a St. Louis of highways and suburban sprawl than toward a city respectful of its origins at the river’s edge.
