In 1908, Cammaerts settled in England, becoming a professor at the University of London in 1933. His poetry of World War I, which appeared in French, was translated and collected in Belgian Poems (1915) and New Belgian Poems (1916). Later works, in English, include Upon This Rock (1943), a poignant character sketch of a son killed in the war, and volumes on Belgian history and culture.
The letter to a G.K.C. and is dated June 17, 1936 and contains a poem. It is presumed to be a copy from a text, not an original typescript.
