Creator: Michelagniolo Buonarroti, 1475-1564.
Collection: From the George N. Meissner Collection.
Publication: Currently published online
Physical Description: 1 item, Autograph manuscript signed, 2 p.
Scope Note:
In late 1530 when the city of Florence submitted to Pope Clement's forces, Michelangelo believed himself to be in danger with the other Florentines who were being exiled or executed, and took refuge in the campanile di San Niccolo, near the Arno River. Though he remained in hiding for several months, he need not have feared, being favored by both sides: the Medici and the people. The piece shown here is presumed to be a journal passage written during this period. The entry cited several days between November 2 and November 20, 1530 and itemizes various business transactions.
