Under the direction of Christopher Sandford, 1933-c.1961, the Golden Cockerel Press continued the fine work of Robert Gibbings, Eric Gill and others enlarging the Press's scope to include more experimental work. There was a constant stream of achievement in book illustration and the work of it's engravers gives the Press it's greatest distinction, contributing to a whole period of woodcut revival.
The correspondence between Dorothea Braby and Christopher Sandford provides an excellent picture of the relationship that can exist between illustrator and publisher. At this time, Dorothey Braby had done at least one other book with Golden Cockerel, Mr. Chambers and Persephone, in 1937.
Material relating to the production of The Lottery Ticket, by V.G. Calderon, done into English by Richard Phibbs with engravings by Dorothea Braby. Proof material, correspondence, notes concerning publication, 1943-1946. Letters primarily from Braby to Christopher Sandford, 1944, discussing her work, 17 items. Other letters from Richard Phibbs, others.
