From then on, she gave an increasingly large number of public readings and broadcasts. Throughout her career, she did a good many book reviews for various British periodicals. Her books of poems were all illustrated with her own drawings. Stevie Smith was awarded the Cholmondeley Poetry Award in 1966 and the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1969.
