Don Evans was fifteen when Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)led the Birmingham demonstrations in 1963. As a resident of Birmingham, Evans experienced the brutality of the city's response and was attacked by dogs and firehoses when demonstrating.
